KEITH WRITES about COLIN HINDMARSH
I met Colin in 1971 at Nashville room and loved his show and soon started playing bass with the Hi Fi Trio . Had a great time at the Nashville, Red cow, Clarendon barn, Adam & Eve, Red Lion Brentford (we once had Lonnie Donnigan in our audience at that legendary venue thats now sadly Macdonalds), and many great memories at The Rising Sun at the time owned by a lovely couple Frank & Nora Hannon who bought a brand new Piano for Colin.
Colin Hindmarsh was the greatest entertainer I've ever seen, a very good freind, Godfather to me & Pam's oldest Son Colin, the funniest practical joker, a totally uninhibited original performer, a powerful, soulful singer who loved music, one of the last brilliant stride / ragtime pianists influenced by Jerry lee Lewis and Chico Marx, he discovered Demis Roussos ... long before anybody else. took us to see him at Albert Hall, and to see and meet another of his favourites Brenda Lee. He took a bouquet of flowers and visited Tammy Wynette when she was in hospital I'm sure he would have cheered her up as he did everyone. On a Canberra cruise he had us in stitches in Cannes taking us for rest relaxing in the foyer of the top hotel there. He had many good freinds and fans all over the world, many great bass players & drummers I could go on forever, hope this is readable I seem to have forgotten to take paragraphs.
In 1994 I played Drums on his last gig in Neasden and he was still on top form the magic was still there with an audience of many young people suprisingly singing along to old songs from long before they were born nobody else could do that. The King of audience participation, much missed, there'll never be another. I hope to add to the gems on youtube one day when I learn how. Cheers from Keith & Pam.
Benny writes --- wonderful words spoken by Keith and Pam and without any doubt, every time we met up with Colin Hindmarsh on Canberra his performances were brilliant. At times when I did not clash with B.V. playing times, I would go to listen to Colin entertaining, and one evening he turned round to me as I enterted the Bonito Club saying 'hi folks - Benny has come to learn from me'. He was certainly right as I picked up many good ideas in Live Entertainment from Colin and equally from Brian Smith who was a very special friend besides being a fabulous Entrtainer with his Great Orchestra who specialised in Strictly Ballroom Dancing. Both Legends in their time and greatly missed. They were a great credit to P&O.

Keith, as much as you have admired Colin and all his great entertainment, I equally give great credit and respect to you and your family 'The Reads' for all your musical talents, you all never seem to amaze. I could write a book about you all especially your youngest son Mark Read from A1. Mark's musical talent as a keyboard player, lead vocalist and guitarist and composer is just incredible. I still have fresh memories when Mark played on the Canberra on his first cruise with Black Velvet, at the time just 15 years old, got time off from school as 'Work Experience' - he was a pride in the band and in no time had a following of all the lovely young girls. (Wait for special postings in due course with photographs).

Keith, Pam and Maz (superstars from the famous DIAMOND) trio, I wish you continuous success in your live entertainment.

Many more photographs and updates to follow in due course all connected to cruising on P&O Luxuary cruise liners.

Regards - Benny

Nice songlist of Colin.
